BAT TELEMETRY PROJECT UNDERWAY IN THE WATERSHED!!
Don't
be surprised to see cars and trucks with strange looking antennas
racing around the area during the middle of the night. They are
actually part of an ongoing bat telemetry project following the
flight and roosting and foraging patterns of Myotis lucifugus or
Little Brown bats from the hibernaculum in Durham Township.

Durham Bat Mine Designated as a Pennsylvania Important Mammal
Area
The Durham Bat Mine was recently awarded a special designation
as an Important Mammal Area or IMA. This designation is afforded
to special natural areas in the commonwealth that meet strict guidelines
for the presence of unique habitat that support important species
of mammals. In this case
bats, over 8,000 of them, located
in this abandoned mine in Durham Township.

Historic Survey to Begin in Township
Heritage Conservancy will conduct a survey of potentially historic
buildings, structures, sites and districts in Springfield Township.
The survey will include all historic resources 75 years old or older.
The survey, being funded by the Neusch Fund and Springfield Township,
will begin this spring and
continue through the summer.
Building age will be determined by reviewing historic maps, tax
records from the board of assessment and by architectural style
and construction technique.
It is estimated that approximately 600 to 650 properties will be
surveyed. Volunteers are needed to help collect data and photograph
properties. Anyone interested in helping should contact David Kimmerly,
Historic Preservation Specialist, Heritage Conservancy at 215-345-7030
Ext. 109.
